In English there are certain verbs which are usually followed by a specific preposition which completes the meaning of the verb without altering its original meaning.
Don't shout at me!

2. Common verbs and prepositions
There is no rule as to which preposition we should use, therefore we must learn the verbs with their corresponding preposition.

| ARRIVE | At (building, room, event) | We arrived at the station on time. |

| DREAM | About (sleeping) | I often dream about snakes. |
| Of (expectation) | I dream of being a millionaire one day. | |
| TALK | To (have a conversation) | She is talking to her teacher. |
| About (topic of the conversation) | They are talking about clothes. | |
| SHOUT | At (because you are angry) | He shouted at me for breaking his mobile. |
| To (to be heard) | He shouted to me from the other side of the room. | |
| THINK | Of (opinion) | What do you think of the new teacher? |
| About (consider) | I'm thinking about building a pool in the garden. | |
| LAUGH | At/about (something) | He is funny boy. I always laugh at his jokes. |
| GET MARRIED | To | I'm getting married to Michel next October. |
| LOOK | At | She is looking at some flowers. |
| INVITE | (someone) to (a place) | I am going to invite him to my party. |
